Daisy Cooper MP scoops top backbencher accolade

Daisy Cooper MP after receiving her award at the National Liberal Club

“I’ll continue to work hard and campaign tirelessly on the issues impacting my constituents.”

Daisy Cooper MP has been named ‘Most Influential Backbencher of 2021’ after topping a public vote.

The vote was organised by communications consultancy Pagefield London, which produced the original shortlist of 20 backbencher MPs. The result was announced at a reception held by the company at the National Liberal Club on Tuesday 22 March.

As well as her other campaigns on business rates and reliable rail services, a key focus of Daisy’s work since being elected in 2019 has been the building safety crisis, which has seen leaseholders facing sky-high bills for fire safety defects in their flats.

Since her campaign started, the government has made several concessions, including amendments to the Building Safety Bill and the Fire Safety Bill.

Daisy said: “While a lot of attention is given to frontbench politics, it’s on the backbenches where some of the most important work in parliament takes place: it’s here that you see MPs working tirelessly together, cross-party, on some of the biggest issues facing our constituents and the country.

“However, good campaigns only happen when there are good campaigners outside of Parliament. Here in St Albans, there are many cladding and fire safety victims who are relentless, articulate and persuasive in their campaigning. They’re a force to be reckoned with, and they deserve recognition too.

“I’m honoured to have been voted Pagefield’s 2021 “Most Influential Backbencher of 2021’ and I’ll continue to work hard and campaign tirelessly on the issues impacting my constituents.”
