Hundreds of St Albans residents have written to me to say how horrified they are that around 1.4 million Palestinians in Rafah are struggling to survive and now face the threat of an imminent military offensive by the Israel Defence Force.
On the 21 February, the public looked to Parliament to display grown up politics, to work together, and to speak with one voice: to publicly oppose the offensive and to call for a genuine two-way ceasefire. Sadly Parliament descended into chaos.
Below is the Lib Dems amendment to the SNP ceasefire motion which explains our full position. Sadly our amendment wasn’t selected for a vote but we indicated earlier today that we intended to vote for anything that got us closer to our position and to calls for an immediate bilateral ceasefire.
That is our position. We will keep offering to work with any and all other parties, in the hope that, even after today’s fiasco, Parliament may yet be able to speak with one voice.
