St Albans MP calls on the Education Minister to intervene to guarantee extra school places at Beaumont School

Daisy Cooper, MP for St Albans, has written to the Secretary of State for Education, asking for her urgent intervention to facilitate an arrangement that allows Beaumont to offer the 240 places they are prepared to provide this coming academic year

Daisy Cooper, MP for St Albans, said: ”There is a mounting storm of anger about how this has been handled and the decision.

”Having been in close contact with the relevant parties, it strikes me that a breakdown in communication between Hertfordshire County Council and the Department for Education has resulted in Beaumont being unable to offer the additional eighth form of 30 places that they have done for the past two years (so-called “bulge” years) – despite wanting to, and offering to make a financial contribution to make it happen.

”After trying to establish the facts over the last few days working with local County Councillors, I have today written to the Secretary of State for Education asking for her urgent intervention to facilitate an arrangement that allows Beaumont to offer the 240 places they are prepared to provide this coming academic year, and plan to provide sustainable places for children in the local catchment area in the long-term.”
