Protecting our High Streets

Local Lib Dem councillors and I have long been worried of the real danger facing St Albans high streets, whereby some developers can change shop fronts into homes – undermining the character and draw of our high streets.

Since the government made it harder for councils to protect high street areas, developers are free to do this without permission.

After working hand-in-glove with local Lib Dem councillors, with some help from the cross-party Local Government Association and a bit of fancy parliamentary footwork by my team last week, I’m pleased the Minister has agreed to meet with us to see what can be done. πŸ’ͺ
