In the Liberal Democrat Frontbench reshuffle in September, Daisy Cooper MP for St Albans was appointed Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for the Treasury by party Leader Ed Davey.
This appointment follows the Liberal Democrats’ first reshuffle since the party won a record number of seats in the general election.
Daisy has vowed to take local issues in St Albans to the heart of Westminster, and will use this new role in the House of Commons to champion these and hold the government to account on policy decisions.
Daisy was previously the party’s Health and Social Care Spokesperson, but will instead now take up the position of Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson.
Speaking about her new appointment, Daisy said:
“I’m absolutely delighted to have been appointed as the Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson and I’m determined to use this platform to put local issues on the national stage.
“After years of Conservative rule our local health services are at breaking point, and too many families and pensioners are struggling with soaring living costs. Countless local residents tell me they are worried about being unable to access the health care they need, or heat their homes through the winter.
“We Liberal Democrats are calling on the Labour government to make their Autumn Budget a Budget to Save our NHS and Care, and to think again on its cuts to the Winter Fuel Allowance which will leave many vulnerable pensioners struggling to stay warm this winter.
““Locally, families and small businesses in St Albans tell me that they need this Parliament to unlock the potential of our high streets and to back small businesses. I’ll use my new role to do just that.
“The Conservatives lost credibility in government and having left such a mess behind, they have no credibility in opposition either.
“We Liberal Democrats will be a constructive opposition in Westminster: where the Labour government gets it right we’ll support them, where they get it wrong we’ll hold their feet to the fire.”
