It’s a real privilege to represent St Albans as the local Member of Parliament.
As your MP, I’m working hard every day to repay the trust local residents have put in me since I was elected in 2019. My number one priority will always be standing up for our community and supporting my constituents – whether that’s by carrying out casework, raising issues in Parliament, or advocating for local causes.
Being a Liberal Democrat, I’m a passionate internationalist. Before I was elected, I worked in Commonwealth affairs for ten years campaigning for LGBT+ rights abroad and for greater transparency around how taxpayers’ money is used to help some of the world’s poorest. I continue to campaign for the preservation and promotion of Britain’s place in Europe and the world.
As a keen environmentalist, another key focus for me is the climate and ecological emergency. We need urgent action to stop untold human suffering. One of the first things I did as your MP was to become Vice-Chair of the cross-party Climate Change group. In that role, I’ve helped launch a “policy tracker” to hold the Government to account, pressed for faster and more ambitious action, and raised the plight of our precious chalk streams.
I’m a passionate supporter of the NHS and have a particular interest in long-term conditions. I believe in cradle to grave education and work closely with local schools, colleges and businesses. I continue to campaign for improved standards and funding for our vital health and education public services.
Across the constituency, we have a number of wonderful high streets and, I’ve been known to boast in Parliament about the fact that in our city centre we have more pubs per square mile than anywhere else in the UK! I work closely with local hospitality and retail businesses and fight for small businesses to get a fair deal and for measures that will keep our high streets alive.
Like many fellow residents, I commute to London. As the founder of St Albans Commuter and Passenger Action Group, I’ve helped create a network of train users who campaign for reliable and affordable services.
Finally, I believe in equality and protecting minority rights, and actively encourage people from under-represented backgrounds to get involved in politics.
Within Parliament, I work closely with MPs of other parties to advance issues that matter to St Albans residents – including via my membership of several All-Party Parliamentary Groups. You can read more about my work for St Albans in Parliament – including my voting record – here: https://members.parliament.uk/member/4769/career. I’m currently Deputy Leader and Treasury Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats, having previously been Health & Social Care Spokesperson.
