About

It’s a real privilege to represent St Albans as the local Member of Parliament.

As your MP, Iโ€™m working hard every day to repay the trust local residents have put in me since I was elected in 2019. My number one priority will always be standing up for our community and supporting my constituents โ€“ whether thatโ€™s by carrying out casework, raising issues in Parliament, or advocating for local causes.

Being a Liberal Democrat, Iโ€™m a passionate internationalist. Before I was elected, I worked in Commonwealth affairs for ten years campaigning for LGBT+ rights abroad and for greater transparency around how taxpayersโ€™ money is used to help some of the worldโ€™s poorest. I continue to campaign for the preservation and promotion of Britainโ€™s place in Europe and the world.

As a keen environmentalist, another key focus for me is the climate and ecological emergency. We need urgent action to stop untold human suffering. One of the first things I did as your MP was to become Vice-Chair of the cross-party Climate Change group. In that role, Iโ€™ve helped launch a โ€œpolicy trackerโ€ to hold the Government to account, pressed for faster and more ambitious action, and raised the plight of our precious chalk streams.

Iโ€™m a passionate supporter of the NHS and have a particular interest in long-term conditions. I believe in cradle to grave education and work closely with local schools, colleges and businesses. I continue to campaign for improved standards and funding for our vital health and education public services.

Across the constituency, we have a number of wonderful high streets and, Iโ€™ve been known to boast in Parliament about the fact that in our city centre we have more pubs per square mile than anywhere else in the UK! I work closely with local hospitality and retail businesses and fight for small businesses to get a fair deal and for measures that will keep our high streets alive.

Like many fellow residents, I commute to London. As the founder of St Albans Commuter and Passenger Action Group, Iโ€™ve helped create a network of train users who campaign for reliable and affordable services.

Finally, I believe in equality and protecting minority rights, and actively encourage people from under-represented backgrounds to get involved in politics.

Within Parliament, I work closely with MPs of other parties to advance issues that matter to St Albans residents โ€“ including via my membership of several All-Party Parliamentary Groups. You can read more about my work for St Albans in Parliament โ€“ including my voting record โ€“ here: https://members.parliament.uk/member/4769/career. I’m currently Deputy Leader and Treasury Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats, having previously been Health & Social Care Spokesperson.
